Dear All
Message from Robert:
If you are around on Sunday February 18th at midday I’ll be playing Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition as part of a concert series at All Saints’ Church on Putney Common, where I also host my Knitting Concerts. Pictures is 150 years old – it was composed in 1874 – as is All Saints, so it seemed like a good idea to introduce the two to each other. I’ll precede it with a transcription of a Bach chorale prelude – Ich ruf’ von Dir, Herr Jesu Christ (I call on Thee, Lord Jesus Christ) – which is a rough translation of what most pianists are heard muttering before they embark on a performance of the Mussorgsky. The concert starts at noon, safely 30 minutes after the morning service has finished, and will be over in 40 minutes. It’s a free with a retiring collection. Somebody asked me recently what a retiring collection is. I said it’s a collection that will enable the pianist to retire. I’m hoping that if I play especially badly, the contributions will be more generous to encourage me to retire even sooner. Do please come.
You can also catch Robert today if you’re quick at St Brides Fleet Street Fri 9th Mar at 1:15
