  • Rehearsal dates for June concert

    Hi all

Tonight is one of just THREE – 3 – remaining rehearsals before the day of the concert. Although we have a run-through on the day, this is to ensure we are sync’d to the orchestra, not to learn notes.

With the possibility of adjustments, please make sure you have these in your diaries.

Wednesday June 5, 7.45-9.30pm, Tower House School

Tuesday June 11, 7.45-9.30pm, Christ Church – with Derek Saunders, conductor for the concert

Tuesday June 18, 7.45-9.30pm, Christ Church – with Derek Saunders

Saturday June 22, 2-5pm*, Christ Church – dress rehearsal with orchestra

*Exact time of rehearsal on the day is to be confirmed but please block out the whole afternoon.  There will be a gap between rehearsal and concert for food, costume change and a breather.

  • Summer Term

Hi everyone!  Welcome back and though it seems an age away already – Happy Easter!  We will be easing back gently into things this Tuesday evening.  I’ve uploaded some copies of a Lassus motet, a Bach Chorale and a setting of Burns’ “My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose”.  Please do print your own copies of these and bring them along as usual.  If those who can could also print 2-3 extra copies each, this should cover any people who don’t manage to bring a copy.  Please do also bring your Schubert scores, as we will no doubt be singing some of this as well.

I can now confirm that we will have a small chamber group to accompany us for the concert.  This will be the fantastic Tamerisk quartet, and the excellent Johnny Mahoney on French Horn.  Our own wonderful Robert Bridges will also play from the piano.  I am currently arranging the whole mass for this instrumentation.  All in all, I’m getting really excited about the potential sound of this grouping and hope that we can rise to the standard of these wonderful musicians!

    Keep listening and practising!

Have a good start to the week.

    See you Tuesday,

    Yours,

    Chris

  • Choir summer party – June 27

All, please put June 27 in your diary for our annual nosh and booze-up, which takes place at the abode of our fine bass singer, Mr Christopher Hawkins.

So much preparation is going into the summer party that Chris is designing and building his new home to a tight deadline, especially for the choir’s end–of-season festivities. Foundations were laid this weekend.

Our caterers are busily preparing an array of dishes for me to sample, while Mr Douglas Brewster and myself are arranging a special reconnaissance of vineyards for the complex task of ensuring that the finest wines are provided.

    Further details in due course.

    Roger

    Notes

I realise that this information is coming to you a bit late in the day – apologies for that.  Please don’t panic if you are feeling like this means that you can’t arrive ‘prepared’ for rehearsals tomorrow.  The whole point of a sectional rehearsal is to gain confidence in difficult sections of the piece without the distraction of other parts to rehearse. Consider them as a chance for you to get some tailored input on your own part – no prior preparation required!

That said, it never hurts to have a listen, so if you get a chance tomorrow before rehearsals, please do!

Remember to bring a score and a pencil to make notes.

Have fun and see you next week!

    Yours,

    Chris Stokes

  • Tuesday Jan 24 – NO REHEARSAL

There is NO REHEARSAL TONIGHT as Chris is unwell.

  • First rehearsal back

Happy New Year!  Hope that you have all had a good break.  We start back tomorrow, with our first rehearsal on the wonderful Schubert Mass in E flat!  Many thanks for putting in your orders for music.  Lesley has told me that the scores that we have ordered are unlikely to come through in time for tomorrow as the suppliers have had to order in a special batch for us!  So, for tomorrow, I have uploaded a pdf score to the downloads page.  If you could print and bring the first 18 pages (Kyrie & Gloria) that would be great.  We will also have 3 new members joining us, so it would be good if 3 or 4 of us could please print off an extra copy for them.  If you would like to have the usual start-of-term social, please bring a bottle/nibbles along!

    Chris

  • Music for today’s rehearsal

Hi everyone, hope you have all had a good week. For a bit of fun for our final rehearsal this evening, I’ve selected a few Christmas songs that we can mess about with.  Please print out the rehearsal pack on the downloads page and bring along!  Chris

  • Carols @ The Victoria

Hi everyone!  Carol sheet-music packs are now available for download from the website.  Please download and print a full copy for this coming Tuesday’s rehearsal.  See you tomorrow!  Chris

  • New email address

Hi everyone!  Great rehearsal on Tuesday: this concert is shaping up into something pretty exciting, so thanks for all your hard work.  This is just a quick note to say that I have set up a new email address, which is cjstokes1984@gmail.com.  Messages sent to pianomann1984@hotmail.com are no longer being monitored.  Thanks!  Chris
