2023 Tour – Vienna July 6-9 PLEASE READ

Hi all

Thanks to everyone who has responded to the question of a tour next summer. By my records we have 13 Yesses and a couple of Maybes for the most popular choice, the trip to Vienna for a massed choir sing of Haydn’s Creation with Kunst and Kultur, the same organisation that we have sung with on previous tours.

IT IS NOW TIME TO COMMIT AS IN CONFIRM NUMBERS WITH FINANCIAL CONSEQUENCES. SO PLEASE CHECK THAT WHERE YOUR NAME IS BELOW IS CORRECT!

From the Yesses I need your confirmation that you are still definitely good to go, and that the slightly lower number of travellers does not change your mind. There is one other factor that you need to consider. The original plan was that the tour would effectively select our summer work. But on further consideration, I don’t feel that I am up to putting on a work of the scale of the Creation, with an orchestra, soloists etc as my first major work as a conductor – not least because I have never sung it, I don’t know it, and so leading and conducting it as a my first effort at such an undertaking is more than I can be confident of. Therefore, the touring party would need to be doing the majority of learning of the work either independently, or in small workshops. We would put on a different summer concert. Sorry for this significant change of plan, and for the short time to consider how it affects your intentions.

From the Maybes I need to know if there is any change in your position. It MAY be possible to join the tour after tomorrow, but that cannot be guaranteed.
