Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Tuesday at usual time for some carols and drinks. If you have a Carols for Choirs book (Willcocks/Rutter) please bring. We will start singing 7.45pm as usual and stop for refreshments towards 9pm. Please bring some festive snacks. We will use the wine left from Saturday and ask for donations to cover this. If you are not a wine drinker please bring what you would like to drink. Suggest everyone brings their own drinking vessel or to save on waste, or paper cups. After 9.30pm we will move on to The Victoria pub round the corner. Lesley

Concert Tickets from Rachel and Marilyn
Hello all
Marilyn and I are delighted to be organising the ticket sales for the Sheen Gate Choir concert on Saturday, November 30th. I’m sure we’re all looking forward to this first concert with Dave as our choir master and to singing this wonderful selection of music to as large and appreciative an audience as possible.
Just to confirm: The expectation is that every member of the choir will buy one ticket for themselves, whether or not you will be singing on the day itself.
The hope is that each of us will also invite at least three of our friends or family to come and enjoy the concert and help to make a wonderful atmosphere on the evening with a full audience in the church.
The tickets are £10 each. Please put the correct amount of cash into an envelope with your name and the number of tickets you’d like written clearly on the front and bring this with you to the next rehearsal. We’ll then arrange for tickets to come back to you, either on the spot or at the following rehearsal.
If for any reason you do not want to buy any tickets please confirm this to us by email so we can take you off the list. Otherwise you may be sent unnecessary reminders from me or Marilyn over the next few weeks.
So:
Please put your cash into a marked envelope (your name and number of tickets) and give to Rachel or Marilyn. And remember, you can always buy more tickets nearer the time either through us at a rehearsal or on the door on the day of the concert itself. If you have any questions please call me on 07595 334 382.
Best wishes
Rachel (and Marilyn)

Dress for the concert is proposed to be all black. As previewed, Dave has invited two young adult soloists to perform a piece each. Our soloists slot was very popular in last summer’s concert and this is something we would like to continue from time to time as an inspiration to us all. The full repertoire for us is:
Bruckner – Locus Iste
Handel – Zadok the Priest
Rutter – Birthday Madrigals – no photocopies – if you don’t have a score you will need one
Britten – Choral Dances from Gloriana – we are renting scores for this which will be available on 30th November and possibly the previous rehearsal but not for taking away
Faure – Cantique de Jean Racine
Vaughan Williams – Antiphon
Mozart Ave Verum
Any questions on concert logistics to our ops manager Camilla Hall (soprano)

Subs and other money matters
Gentle reminder to the handful of dear friends who have not paid subs for this term, please do! £70 to choir account. Remember also that we ask our singers to buy a concert ticket, please make sure Rachel has your money on Saturday with your other purchases – when we become famous we won’t have to do this. Also please confirm to Roger Blitz that you are coming to party on Tuesday and pay him £20 so Teresa and drinks team can spend on food and drink. See his email of 4 June.
Keep practicing those puccini words and rhythms! Oh and roll out the italian too before saturday too we won’t have time for stumbling over those words either. 🙂 Lesley

Ramping it up
Dear All, A great rehearsal with Chris squeezed in to the back of the hall at Tower House. Next week will be at Christ Church on Tuesday 11th as per usual. Please be there for baton down at 8pm. Our guest conductor Derek Saunders will be with us and we will go through the entire repertoire so Derek can see what we need to focus on for the last Tuesday and Saturday. Bring pencils and please reflect on what we did this week – massive steps taken on Dido and Enchanted Islanders which we don’t want to lose.
Saturday 22nd rehearsal will be 2.30pm to 4pm to allow time for the ensemble to have a polishing session with Derek. Please let me know if this causes any difficulties – there may be scope to start at 3pm if this looks really problematic. lesley.morley1@gmail.com.
Concert at 7pm – we are all responsible for bringing in the audience please!

Summer Term
Hi everyone! Welcome back and though it seems an age away already – Happy Easter! We will be easing back gently into things this Tuesday evening. I’ve uploaded some copies of a Lassus motet, a Bach Chorale and a setting of Burns’ “My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose”. Please do print your own copies of these and bring them along as usual. If those who can could also print 2-3 extra copies each, this should cover any people who don’t manage to bring a copy. Please do also bring your Schubert scores, as we will no doubt be singing some of this as well.
I can now confirm that we will have a small chamber group to accompany us for the concert. This will be the fantastic Tamerisk quartet, and the excellent Johnny Mahoney on French Horn. Our own wonderful Robert Bridges will also play from the piano. I am currently arranging the whole mass for this instrumentation. All in all, I’m getting really excited about the potential sound of this grouping and hope that we can rise to the standard of these wonderful musicians!
Keep listening and practising!
Have a good start to the week.
See you Tuesday,
Yours,
Chris

Notes
I realise that this information is coming to you a bit late in the day – apologies for that. Please don’t panic if you are feeling like this means that you can’t arrive ‘prepared’ for rehearsals tomorrow. The whole point of a sectional rehearsal is to gain confidence in difficult sections of the piece without the distraction of other parts to rehearse. Consider them as a chance for you to get some tailored input on your own part – no prior preparation required!
That said, it never hurts to have a listen, so if you get a chance tomorrow before rehearsals, please do!
Remember to bring a score and a pencil to make notes.
Have fun and see you next week!
Yours,
Chris Stokes

First rehearsal back
Happy New Year! Hope that you have all had a good break. We start back tomorrow, with our first rehearsal on the wonderful Schubert Mass in E flat! Many thanks for putting in your orders for music. Lesley has told me that the scores that we have ordered are unlikely to come through in time for tomorrow as the suppliers have had to order in a special batch for us! So, for tomorrow, I have uploaded a pdf score to the downloads page. If you could print and bring the first 18 pages (Kyrie & Gloria) that would be great. We will also have 3 new members joining us, so it would be good if 3 or 4 of us could please print off an extra copy for them. If you would like to have the usual start-of-term social, please bring a bottle/nibbles along!
Chris
